Mural Project for School and Communities
These murals have been painted by students of all ages during a typical artist residency of one month. Joan takes students through the creative process of brainstorming their ideas, designing a layout, researching images, then drawing and painting. Joan's program includes drawing practice sheets which use left and right brain activities. "I also lead the students into resolving logistical problems by using math skills and further knowledge of their subject." Joan paints with a few students at a time to give one on one instruction and enhance artistic experience. Indoors or outdoors, students work through the process of brainstorming ideas, designing a layout, researching images, drawing and painting a mural for their school or community. Themes can be environmental, school pride, friendship or futuristic. This is a great experience in group expression, activity and organization.
